First visit
What happens at your first visit
Your first visit is longer than the ones after it. Your provider explains each step before it happens.
- 01
Step 1: Before you come
Fill in your forms on the patient portal, if you can. They stay with your provider, and the form on this site never asks about your health.
- 02
Step 2: Check in
Go to the desk on your floor. Acupuncture and massage are on the second floor; physical therapy, chiropractic and occupational therapy are on the first.
- 03
Step 3: A conversation
Your provider asks about your health, your medicines and what you would like help with, and tells you what the visit will include.
- 04
Step 4: The care itself
Your provider explains the risks and asks for your agreement before anything begins. You can pause or stop at any time.
- 05
Step 5: Before you leave
You get a short plan, the next steps and a chance to ask questions. With your written permission, your providers share the plan.
Getting ready
What to wear and bring
Wear
Loose, comfortable clothes you can move in. Your provider will tell you what needs to be uncovered and will drape you.
Eat
A light meal an hour or two before. Arriving very hungry or very full can make a visit harder.
Bring
A list of your medicines and supplements, any note from your doctor, your insurance card and a photo ID.
Tell us first
Pregnancy, blood thinners, a pacemaker, lymph node removal, a bleeding disorder or a fear of needles.
Common first-visit questions
How long is a first visit?
It depends on the provider, and we tell you when you book. First visits run longer than the ones after.
Can someone come with me?
Yes. A friend or family member can wait with you in the lobby, or come to the room if you and your provider agree.
What if I am nervous about needles?
Say so when you book and again at the start. Your acupuncturist can go slowly, use fewer needles or start with cupping or warmth instead.
